Roles

The management of roles within CERN is of critical importance. Roles are responsibilities held by people at CERN, of various kinds:

• standard hierarchical roles such as Group Leader, Divisional leaders etc.;
• roles within experiments such as Technical coordinator, spokesman etc.;
• roles attributed for Financial/Budget reasons such Budget Holder, Team leader etc..
• roles attributed outside the standard organization units such as Technical responsible for a market Survey, Saftey Officer for a Building etc ...

These roles are essential to all workflow based Information Systems such as EDH and in general for all AIS applications to decide on the user's access rights.

Most of these roles are entered and maintained by DPOs using EDHADMIN. Others are managed by a specific application, such as CFU.

The ROLES application is used to create a central repository where all Roles information may be transferred, from various sources and made available to all client applications, within or outside AIS.
